MLK Police Help Out Former Student

In their first few months on the job, FCPS Police Officers Matt Williams  and Shawn Davis have already established positive relationships and made a difference in the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy community.

Davis and Williams had asked MLK school psychologist Dr. Bob Munroe to let them know if there was ever a student they could help out. Then they learned of a former student and now-expectant mother who needed furniture. The FCPS officers reached out to Ryan Holland, a neighborhood resource officer with Lexington Police, who coordinated a drive that outfitted the young woman’s apartment with a donated crib, changing table, baby essentials, two beds, and a sofa more thanks to police, firefighters, and community members. The officers even assembled the furniture and delivered it all to the family.

“The officers at MLK work to connect, build, as well as repair relationships with students. They go above and beyond to help where they can,” said Principal David Moore. “This effort was another example of just that – seeking out an opportunity to make an impact. They not only helped the former student but the whole family. It really speaks to their efforts and dedication to our kids and community.”
